Spirit of Wipro Run 08

Posted by Vinod

Well here is a peice of info abt the extra curricular activity @ WHIP ROW.
2 Categories in Marathon
4kms and 10 kms......

It was all about the "Run for Power, Confidence and Lastly(thou not the least) for Spirit and Integrity of WHIP ROW".

We would like to share the experience of the Run.

Well were were only 5 ppl from telecom who had the will to get up early @4 30 and board the bus titled "Wipro Run" shuttle@5. We are none other than Arjun, Chethan, Naveen, Vinod and Prathibha

The gun shot for the 4km took off @7 am sharp and we had Chethan, Arjun and Prathibha running for glory and fun. Prathibha shocked everyone with her Road Runner skills.
She completed the race in abt 30mins(Gals common running 4kms in 30 mins is surely a thing one can boast abt). The winner did it in 23mins and it was a milestone for her to complete thr race in 30 mins. Well next time we know she ll be running for the Medal.

Starting with the guys, well we had one thing in mind for sure.... To run for fun and to take our time to stroll looking at chics, well Whiprow one's ofcourse.

Cp aka Chethan was on top of the world and was ready for the race. He too completed the daunting task, this time not given by his PM though, and was overjoyed and surprised that his calf muscles were strong enough.

Its was rare to see the Silent Performer Arjun run the race as well. Well we know everyone of you will be surprised to hear that he completed the race within 25mins. I could see him fully geared with all branded accessories for the run and my god he runs like Horse, always focussed.

Time 7:15 a.m: Vinod and Naveen panting for energy let atleast complete the 10 km run, we had a doubt if we would run till the gate entrance(hardly 500mtrs). But we definitely had plans for completing it and our estimated time was 3hours. We ran across the road just to have our photos clicked by the Wipro Media personnal but they shooed us away to stick to one side of the road.
Our other friends at whiprow thought it was not a pragmatic idea for running 10kms at a stretch but we were sane enough to prove them wrong. We had less chics to visualize as we strolled along as it was a 10km run and only a few girls participated. Finally we did it and we were shocked to see the Ticker. It showed 55mins.That was awesome right!!!!!!!

It gave us a great feeling of rapture when everyone of us completed the race. Well we had this plethoric energy accompanied by our intransigent will to complete the Run with other diligent runners. Personally Naveen went there for the T-shirt which was distributed free of cost and for his insatiable hunger to eat free Wipro snacks which they dont give very often.

Thanks for one and all for having the patience to read this small update rich in rhetoric.

Spirit of Wipro Run

An intense desire to take part in the Run on Saturday, 6th September, literally threw me out of the bed at the time the alarm was set, which doesn’t happen usually though.

Then I geared up with the costume, the shoes, the track bottoms, the T-shirt and left along with my cousin and aunt, who were also eager to take part, to the place, where we were well before the scheduled time of the Wipro’s bus pickup.

Thus reached the venue, collected the T-shirt and the chest badges. I felt very proud to wear that Wipro’s Rainbow flower on my heart.

All set for the Run, waiting for the countdown, set out for completion of the magical 4 km distance.

The lack of practice to run that distance made me run, walk, then run, then walk and it continued. Finally reached the destination in about half an hour.

Later came the moment, which I will cherish a longer time which I would like to share.
The training for the Run was conducted on weekends for 2½ months before the D-day. Out of curiosity I attended one day, that was two weeks before the Run. It was there did, I meet this guy, an international athlete Mr.Arjun Devaiah, the trainer. I just introduced myself with my name where I was one among the 50+ people. Then on the day of the Run when I met and wished him, he said “Hi Prathiba”. This amazed me like anything, that he actually remembered my name so well, out of so many people there. He is such an outstanding person; he has so many medals to his credit both at the national and international level. I remember one quote of his, which I bet all of you, will love to hear, “The longest distance covered is from bed to floor”.

Later, we had the refreshments arranged for the runners, applauded the winners; the runners, danced to the tunes of the DJ, clicked the photos, made videos, collected the souvenirs and took the paths toward our very own sweet homes with loads of memorable moments only to take rest and get ready to work on Monday as usual.
